Knock on Woods

Knock on Woods (KOW) is a para-site residency hosted by ex-residents around the world. The project establishes autonomous territories along the way by temporarily staking claim to land with the use of tree-flags.

"speaker/drum", was the title of my residency at KOW. This residency focussed on collecting, documenting, preforming and experimenting with a series of invented instruments I have been working with over the past year or so. Despite its brief duration, this residency has provided the seed for many-a-fruit-to-come. The first of these is this video. knock on woods website

a440hz

a440hz is an artistic exploration of the entirety of the electro-magnetic frequency spectrum, or, in short, existence as we know it. Exercising musical metaphor, a440hz proposes new fundaments upon which we might perceive our world. In 2007, a440hz worked with 30 Vancouver artists to create a series of individual and collaborative works that were portrayed in a series of shows and events. I was lucky enough to take part. At the time I had been developing methods of creating physical and electromagnetic feedback loops as systems of sound synthesis. a440hz gave me the opportunity to develop these systems from the prototype stage into an exhibit-grade product. They also introduced me to a magical bunch of people who have changed my life as much as the insights their theory proposes.
